On a business trip Don and his group saw a life altering sight
At the Minneapolis Airport.
The Hensel Twins, though they didn’t know that at the time.
Tony came running up, white as a sheet crying,
I just saw a girl with two heads.
They all laughed at him of course.
The night before in the eerily empty Amana mall
Tony saw a two headed dog which turned out to be
Two affectionate puppies on leashes.
And then the next day he saw the twins.
Two lovely blond heads,
Blue eyes, each calling to Grandma to keep up,
One torso carried on one pair of legs.
Then eating At Cinnamon Hut
One useful pair of arms, hands to feed two mouths.
They are surrounded by their happy family.
People stop in their tracks, can’t take it in.
The young engineer Christina feels ill.
Did you ever think that Nature was a mother?
Did you ever think that the God who is Love would permit
The creation of such as these? You have to pause
While the very cells of your body adjust to this new information.
All that you thought you knew, the words you used
Scrambled, reordered. You've heard someone say,
He looked at me like I had two heads.
New meanings, carved out, bas relief, technicolor, laser sharp.
It’s probably good to be slapped to attention from time to time.
The Hensel family is a one of those model families.
The twins are healthy and active and much loved by
Two siblings, grandparents, uncles and aunts.
The twins they are called. Brittany and Abigail.
Their heads list, one five degrees, the other twenty degree
One left, one right from center- well adjusted.
They are two persons in one:
Each twin controls her half of their body,
Operating one of the arms and one of the legs.
The initial learning of physical processes that required bodily coordination
Such as clapping, crawling, and walking required the cooperation of both children
Brittany is better at writing; Abigail at math.
They cooperate to play the piano, swim and ride a bike.
They sometimes read each other’s minds.
Abigail, Brittany, and the person - united.
Makes one stop to think again about personhood.
Relationship. Perichoresis. Coinherence.
Did you ever think you would never even begin to understand
how Trinity works? One could begin by thinking
About the Hensel twins.
Lives are sermons.
